Product Review: Not balanced properly hence not fit-for-purpose ! Not the original by a long way !
Having read some of the other reviews I was looking forward to receiving a brand new "Original 1227" Anglepoise. I already have a old model bought sometime in the sixties which works well. The new one initially looked fine in the box, but imagine my annoyance when I discovered it does not balance properly and stays put in only a limited range of positions, nothing like the old version. It is reasonably well finished, but the parts are not of the same standard as the older model: in particular the shade forks are now rough on the inner edges (cut finger - when moving the shade whilst holding these to avoid getting finger marks on the chrome finish of the shade itself). Arms are more square than the old model which has a well rounded finish of higher quality. Bearings on the old model seem to act smoother. Cables are routed slightly differently. Base is good - possibly better than the old one whose felt underlay is now decayed ! However it is the movement that is the real problem -...
